UB WestVic Pair Selected for National Team

UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Cason Sport Badminton program athletes Nathan David and Tara Pilven have capped off an excellent tournament season with selection in the Australian Under 19 Team, which is to compete in the World Junior Championships in Malaysia in October..

For Pilven, the 2009 Australasian Under 17 Girls Single Champion and David, who was runner-up in the recent Australian Junior International Championships in the mixed doubles, this will be their first World Junior Championships, which consists of both a team and individual tournament.  The 2009 event is being held at Alor Setar, in northern Malaysia, from October 23rd to November 1st.

This will be an especially testing time for David, who is currently completing his VCE at Sebastopol College.  Unfortunately for David, the event falls at the same time as the first of his VCE exams.

In preparation for the event both athletes will continue their training which includes three on-court sessions a week with the UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Cason Sports Badminton Squad, gym session for David and two sessions per week with the National Squad in Melbourne.  Both Pilven and David will compete in the Ballarat Junior Tournament to be held at the Ken Kay Stadium on the 12th of September.
