The performance analysis branch of the sport sciences is coordinated by Dr Natalie Saunders (School of HM&SS). The main role of the performance analysis section will be to:
- analyse and evaluate sporting techniques; and
- prescribe corrective strategies and methods to improve technical performance.
The second part may overlap with the sport psychology (skill acquisition) section, in developing the most appropriate strategies for maximising learning and improvement.
The services offered are all based around technical analysis and prescription, and are ordered from the most basic level to the most advanced. Costing will be based on the level of analysis. All of the following can be adapted to suit the coach’s needs.Video-Based Analysis:
Video capturing can be performed at any venue (depending on lighting) or at the university. Capturing can be performed during training or during simulated or competition games.
- Single camera analysis – side-on and/or front/back view. Analog recording to VHS tape for coach.
- Single camera analysis – side-on and/or front/back view. Digital recording to computer for coach. Basic qualitative analysis can be performed during training with replays and slow motion. Trimmed video images/clips can be saved onto CD for coach/athlete.
- One of the above, with a detailed qualitative analysis and report, including recommendations for improvement.
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis, including variables such as joint angles, joint and implement velocities and centre of mass measurements.
- Any of the above, but with high speed cameras (200f/s). NB: (other cameras are 50f/s).
The services will be provided by UB human movement assistants.
