Pilven Performs at Youth Olympics

UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Cason Sports Badminton Program long time member and champion player Tara Pilven has recently returned from her Youth Olympics participation. Pilven played in the Badminton singles draw at the event, which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. 

The tournament was the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, and gave opportunity to athletes from the world over aged between 14 and 18 to compete on the international stage. 

The Badminton tournament saw the 32 players who qualified placed into pools of four, with the winner of each pool progressing to the quarter-finals, which from thereon became knock-out matches. Tara, who recently turned 17, finished third in her pool, winning one of her three matches.

David Takes on the World

UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Cason Sports Badminton Program stalwart Nathan David will take on the world this week, when he plays in the World University Games in Taiwan. He will be the only male Badminton player in the Australian team.

Gersch Gets Golf Gongs

UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Integra Golf Program athlete Cody Gersch, has continued his ascension of recent times in the past two weeks, claiming two more trophies to add to his collection. Gersch a first year UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Integra Golf Program athlete, took out a 27 hole stroke competition at Murota in mid-August, and then the Wimmera Four-Ball Championships on August 27.

UB WestVic Academy of Sport Integra Golf Program Athletes Perform in District Titles

 

Three of the UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Integra Golf Program’s athletes have continued their excellent performances with good showings in the Wimmera District Junior Titles at the weekend.  

Held over 36 holes, it was Academy Program Stalwart Nick Thomson of Horsham who took the spoils in the scratch event, winning with a score of 155. Up and comer Josh Robins from Nhill continued his exponential improvement over recent months, finishing runner-up in the net standings with a score of 195/149. Fellow Nhill golfer Cody Gersch showed his hard work and dedication are paying off, finishing not far behind Robins in the net event with 190/152 being his score.

Cartledge Makes State Team

 

   

UB WestVic Academy of Sport: McDonalds Football Program athlete Jye Cartledge has been selected to the Victorian Country Under 15 State Representative team, after the selection camps were held August 6 to 8, in Bendigo.

 

 

The news made the day of Jye’s Mum Belinda Derooy on Tuesday, who said “His family is so happy for him, he’s done so well to make it, we’re really proud of him” at hearing the selection news. At club level, Jye plays for the Ballarat Red Devils Under 18s, where he knows Football Federation South West Victoria Board Member Andrew Burgess well. Mr. Burgess shared Ms Derooy’s excitement at Jye’s selection, saying “It is fantastic for the player and the region. It is a further testament to the development programs in place in Ballarat Football, and that the programs are bearing fruit.” 

 

The Under 15 Victorian Country Boys team will play in the FFA Boys National Youth Championships from September 27 to October 2 in Coffs Harbour. Games will be played at BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour.

UB WestVic Academy of Sport Cason Sports Badminton Athletes Make U/15 State Team

The UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Cason Sports Badminton Program is well represented in the Under 15s Badminton State First and Second teams, with the 20 athlete-strong squad including 3 Academy athletes. Rachael Rais-Colvin, Mitch Gervasoni, and Alice Lorincz have all been rewarded for good performances in the Under 15 State Titles at MSAC on August 1 with selection to the U/15 State Team.

 

 

Rachael has been selected in the first team, which comprises 5 boys and 5 girls, making her one of the top 5 Badminton girls in Victoria for her age. Mitch and Alice have been selected to the second team, which  sees them in the top 10 for Badminton players their age statewide.
