The UB WestVic Academy of Sport: Golf Program, proudly supported by the University of Ballarat, Integra and the Victorian Golf Foundation will act as the peak golf program throughout western Victoria. The Academy team will be coached by Mr Richard Alsop and will provide a development pathway for regionally based athletes.

The objective of the UB WestVic Academy of Sport coaching staff is to implement a program which takes a holistic approach to an athlete’s development. UB WestVic Academy of Sport training sessions are not intended to replace any aspects of the player’s regular training and private coaching. With this type of environment, all parties can be involved with the development of western Victoria’s junior golfers.  The Academy will provide a program that integrates both the physical and mental aspects of golf. An athlete centred approach will focus on the process that need implementing to achieve both short and long term goals. In doing this, a periodised training program will be developed which will be supported and assisted by the Academy’s sports scientists.

The structure of the UB WestVic Academy of Sport’s Golf Program has been designed to provide support to regionally based athletes. Academy Golf Program members will represent the elite group of regionally based athletes.

The specific goals of the UB WestVic Academy of Integra Golf Program are to:

• Consider the relationship between the technical, physical and mental components in order to improve game day performance;
• Assist athletes to enhance their skill base;
• Develop a yearly plan for all Academy athletes;
• Prepare fitness programs and to monitor the use of such programs;
• Monitor all athletes development;
• To provide opportunities and access to Junior tournaments across Victoria; and
• To increase exposure to VIS Coaching standards.
