Carroll defeated the Hong Kong Number 1 player in the final teams match. Then, paired with team mate Sam Von Einem, he held his own to assist in claiming the title in the class 11 category.
With Carroll in Thailand is Alois Rosario, the Paralympic Preparation Program (PPP) coach, and Ballarat Table Tennis Association Juniors coach.
Rosario said earlier today, “this is the best I have seen Carroll play. This is another step up from Spain.”
Carroll returned just last week from Spain at the Spanish Table Tennis Para Open, where he and Von Einem won a Silver medal in the Teams event.
Rosario further said, “We are calling Rory the King of Ballarat, which he is lapping up. He is one very happy player.”
Carroll’s results from the previous two tournaments have increased his chances of selection for the Australian Team for the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Carroll is a member of the Table Tennis program with the WestVic Academy of Sport. He and his fellow squad members receive Strength and Conditioning training; a musculoskeletal screening; Sports Psychology services, and Nutritional advice.
