The Nationals are the highest level competition in Australia, as the Australian Open is open to all to enter; compared to the National Championships consisting of each State sending their best in each division.
In the individual competitions, Max won gold in the individual 16-17 years +76kg, Ben won gold in the individual 16-17 years -76kg and Joel took bronze under 21 male -84kg.
Max and Ben then teamed up with two other Victorians to win the team event for Victoria first defeating NSW then QLD in the final. Joel went into the event injured, so didn’t compete in the teams section.

All three boys have been supported by WestVic for two years or more; and in that time have accessed crucial support services such as: strength and conditioning coaching, sport psychology, nutrition, and mentoring regarding marketing themselves and job hunting.
Max and Ben are currently supported through WestVic’s very successful partnership with Bacchus Marsh Grammar school, while Joel was introduced through that and is now an individual member athlete.
FedUni WestVic Academy of Sport currently supports 127 athletes across 22 sports.
