Competing at the Victorian Open Track and Field Championships, Julia Bourke broke another personal best distance, this time in the Open age category and thus maximum shot put weight, with 13.35m to claim the silver medal. Bourke will now turn her attention to the Australian Junior Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park from 11-15 March 2015; where she will put the shot and throw the hammer, before joining fellow WestVic athlete Emma Werner at the Open Nationals in Brisbane from March 26 to compete in shot put. At the same Championships, Hammer Thrower Werner threw 41.30m in her pet event, and also competed in the shot put, throwing 9.5m.
Gymnast Hudson Irwin had his first competition of the season, and finished the weekend the 2nd ranked Under 15 Gymnast at the 2015 Victorian Men’s High Performance Centre Invitational.
He was competing in the mixed age group of the Under 15 and Under 17, and finished this in 3rd place overall.
Martial Arts trio, Ben BeBortoli, Max Ferrier and Joel Hennessy all competed at the Victorian State Karate Championships. Competing in the 14-15 year old boys 63-70kg weight division, Ben DeBortoli claimed the Gold medal, while Max Noble claimed Bronze. In the 16-17 year old boys under 76kg weight division, Hennessy claimed Bronze. Having only recently returned to competition and training after an injury, this is a great result from Joel.
Mitchell Braiden has been selected in the 2nd 18 side to compete for Victoria at the 2015 Australian Hockey Championships. Braiden is a bottom age player, competing in the Under 18 age division, despite being only 16 years old, this is a great achievement for a young player.
These championships will take place from 8-16 April, and will be held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville.
Bourke, DeBortoli, Noble, Hennessy and Braiden are all member of the Bacchus Marsh Grammar Elite Sport program, and have access to a personalised strength and conditioning program based off their musculoskeletal screening; Nutritional advice; Psychology and mentoring services.
