On Sunday, Alanna and Jemma Peart competed in Wollongong at the Australian Winter Walks Championships in sunny but blustery conditions. Alanna competed in the U/16s Girls 5km race where she walked a time of 25m:34s, a PB of over 2 minutes, earning the Bronze medal; which on handicap was good enough second place. Older sister Jemma competed in the U/18s Girls 5km race where she walked a time of 25m:07s to claim bronze medal.
On Saturday, just 15 minutes down the road at the Kembla Joggers Cross Country Park, the Australian Cross Country Championships were held. Brother and sister duo from our Bacchus Marsh Grammar program Ethan and Sophie McMinimee competed in their respective divisions. Ethan in the U/16s boys 4km event, finishing 9th in 12m:54s, 35 seconds behind first place; sister Sophie in the U/18s girls 4km event, finishing 27th out of 56 competitors, in 15m:09s.
Also, Boxer Jack Denahy competed in the Lightweight 57-60kg division at the State Championships held at Melbourne’s Calabria Club on Sunday. Jack fought in the Gold medal bout, losing on a split judge decision. Good news for Jack though, this result qualifies him for the Nationals in Sydney in November.
