We are very pleased to advise all athletes & families, sponsors & supporters, suppliers and other valued stakeholders that we have added additional strength to our management team this week; with Matt Bacon joining for the coming 6 months to complete his Federation University Sport Management Internship.
This is the first time we have participated in the FedUni Sport Management Internship program as a host organisation; with the initiative adding another dimension to our incredibly diverse and strong student placement portfolio; a key pillar in our partnership with Federation University.
Matt will be in the office Mondays and Wednesdays as standard (and on other days as required) and at various service delivery and program activities. He can be reached in relation to his work with us via our office line, his mobile (0407 867 316) or via email (email@example.com).
Growing up in Bendigo Matt was heavily involved in sports both through school and local competitions; having played football, volleyball, athletics and competing in cross country events all through his schooling years.
Matt moved to Ballarat in 2010 after finishing high school to study a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at Federation University, before transferring into the Bachelor of Sport Management in 2013. Currently, he is in his final year of study, and sought out joining the WestVic Academy of Sport team as an Intern to complete his degree.
As part of his studies at Federation University, Matt completed placements in a variety of roles; including Sports Central as a programs administrator with a particular focus on developing programs for athletes with disabilities. He also completed a placement at Australian University Sports as a Sports Administration and Operations Assistant to the Games Coordinator. He also completed a placement at the Ballarat Basketball Association as a competitions and administration assistant.
When not studying or at WestVic, Matt works part time and is Secretary of the Lismore-Derrinallum Football Club, where he also plays on the weekends.
Upon starting, Matt would like to convey this meesage to all of our stakeholders:
“A big thank you to Rob Ward and Chris Gleeson for giving me the opportunity to work with Westvic Academy of Sport over the next 6 months. Through my various placements I learnt that my passion lies in the development and management of sport at the regional level. Also, working to provide elite level services to some of the best athletes in Western Victoria aligns with my own career aspirations. I look forward to my time working with the WestVic Academy of Sport”.
Please join me in welcoming Matt to the WestVic management team.
Rob Ward – Executive Officer, WestVic Academy of Sport
